The Gold Coast seems to be one long summer, spanning from the end of October until June. We are blessed with a beautiful warm climate, but we also need to be aware of the dangers that come with our beautiful weather. But, with 2 in 3 Australians being diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70, it is important that we take care when in the sun.
Whilst many of us know the dangers of the sun’s rays, there are a few myths floating around that we’d like to debunk.
Whilst this is true of many foundations, and the SPF coverage is written on the packaging, you will need more sunscreen. Whilst your make-up might have a certain level of coverage it is designed for a quick trip to the shops, or incidental sun exposure, not a day in the sun. It is always advised to wear sunscreen under your make-up to ensure you get the right amount of coverage.
Whilst this might be true in some cases, that is not the case for the 1,850 Australian that die of skin cancer every year. Don’t take the risk.
Whilst those with darker skin are less likely to get skin cancers, when they do appear they are usually caught at a later and more aggressive stage. No one is safe from the UV rays without the right sun protection.
Unless you live in a cave somewhere you are unlikely to suffer from vitamin D deficiency from lack of sun. A walk to the shops or doing some gardening is more than enough to boost your levels, you don’t need to be out in the midday sun soaking up the UV rays to keep your levels up. Usually incidental sun exposure is more than enough to keep you healthy, and safe.
Yes, you can, whilst glass can protect you slightly, you will need to wear sunscreen in the car. Tinted windows will help, but to be on the safe side it’s best to apply sunscreen regularly on hot days.
When it comes to sun protection you can never be too careful. Anthony’s Shade Sails on the Gold Coast provides long lasting protection from the sun’s rays. Whether you want to cover your pool, alfresco dining area, or kids play area, a shade sail combined with sunscreen will go a long way to protecting your family.
Don’t risk it, shade sail it.
